Juneteenth: Learn, Reflect, Act

Today, June 19th, Juneteenth, is an important day! It celebrates the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States.

On this day, 153 years ago, more than 250,000 enslaved African Americans were notified of their freedom in Galveston, Texas – our own state – two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. #Juneteenth, as it’s called, is widely celebrated as the end of slavery in the United States.

Also known as #FreedomDay, it’s a day of great hope – but also a time to recognize that the fight against systemic racism is far from over. To this day, and especially in this time, we are seeing that equality for everyone is constantly being challenged. Under the eyes of God, every single person on this planet is exactly the same so let’s honor that by continuing our fight for equality by speaking out against oppression in all of its forms, everywhere.

We’ve decided to observe this day by using this time to reflect, listen, learn, and to take action.
