Frequently Asked Questions about Ideal Protein Protocol and Meal Plans
Dr.Gurrapu advocates a healthy and sustainable weight loss with continuous monitoring. We don’t recommend weight loss by starving or by 1 meal a day plans or consuming too much of one thing.

We will first understand your full body composition analysis using state of the art Inbody 570 system, identify the focus areas, and recommend FDA approved program, Ideal Protein. After working with 100 patients and 1000 lbs of total weight loss so far, Dr.Gurrapu is now excited to extend this program this broadly.
The Ideal Protein Ketogenic Weight Loss Protocol is a medically developed four phase protocol containing two key components – weight loss and a healthier lifestyle education so that you are empowered to sustain your weight loss or weight maintenance results.
The procedure for Ideal protein is described below in 3 steps.
Step 1
- Schedule a medical visit with Dr.Gurrapu. Online link is here or call our office and please indicate weight loss as your visit reason.
- In the visit, the needed health tests will be done depending on the timeline of your last physical. The visit will be billed to your insurance and you will be required to pay only for your co-pay. If you have a high deductible plan and you still have not met your deductible, your fee might be the full visit fee.
- There will be $50 additional charge for full body composition analysis using our Inbody 570 equipment. In most cases, this will not be covered by the insurance.
- Based on the results, different options for weight loss will be discussed and it will also be determined if Ideal Protein is an option. If so, we will go to Step 2.
Step 2
- You will be scheduled the next meeting with our Ideal Protein Weight Loss Manager. This will be 45min to 60min appointment to go over the complete protocol.
- In this visit, you will get access to Ideal Protein tools, an app for your smart phone/iPad and other resources plus an introductory variety pack food including vitamins.
- You will then be part of an extensive eco system to embark on your heathy weight loss journey.
Step3
- Bi-weekly and monthly meetings with the Weight Loss Manager to track the progress and for food ordering and pick-ups.
- As needed, we will have doctor appointments and required blood tests or body composition tests.

- How much does it cost for this special food?
In North America, the Ideal Protein Protocol cost on average about $15 a day, which includes the cost of the foods and the supplements. We encourage you to think of the cost of the Protocol as part of your grocery bill. Redirecting average food expenses to different, healthier options often results in the Protocol being neutral in cost.
This is a research-backed, FDA approved food so it is designed for easier absorption for efficient and sustainable results. You might have seen many people trying different diets on their own. Many of these people stop these diets after some time or develop other health issues.
2. Do I need to eat IdealProtein food indefinitely?
No. Depending on your weight goals, this might be a 3 to 9-month program. When you have successfully achieved certain milestones with your provider, it is expected that you would go back to off-the-shelf food while applying the learnings from the program on what is good and what is bad food for your body. 3. How is this different from other Keto diets?
The Ideal Protein Ketogenic Weight Loss Protocol is a medically developed four phase protocol containing two key components – weight loss and a healthier lifestyle education so that you are empowered to sustain your weight loss or weight maintenance results.
On the other hand, the DIY Keto is largely based on information on-line with experiences from different people. Unfortunately, different people stacking up on a lot of fatty food, are inviting new health problems. DIY keto diets do not differentiate between bad (saturated) and good (unsaturated) fat. 4. Can I purchase Ideal Protein in stores or Costco?
No. It is only available from authorized medical professionals.
5. I am vegeterian. Do I have options?
Vegetarians can follow the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Protocol and can consume eggs, fish or tofu during their evening meal for their whole protein. As an alternative, vegetarians can have 2 Ideal Protein foods for dinner in replacement of their whole protein. Please discuss with our staff and also E review the ingredient list on all boxes before purchasing them.
Strict vegans, who do not consume any animal proteins and animal by-products, such as dairy products, honey and so on, do not qualify to follow the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Protocol due to the many dietary restrictions.
6. How is the taste? Is this going to be tough to eat?
Most of our patients find the food to be very tasty. Our vast selection of delicious meals and snacks will fill you up and taste amazing. It’s the fuel that will help you lose weight and reset possible.

7. Do I need to exercise to lose weight?
It is not required although it is recommended. This protocol depends primarily on nutrition and quality of food. Research has shown that some exercise, especially strength training, will accelerate weight loss. The key again is regular measurements and body composition analysis to ensure quality of weight loss.
8. After I loose weight, would I have a lot of loose skin? What can I do?
Good question! In early 2021, we are planning to launch new services for skin tightening and for fat loss reduction. Please stay tuned and more information will be added on this web page.
